Ireland is renowned for some of the greatest whiskey in the world and a trip to Dublin would not be complete without learning about and trying some of this delightful drink.
Perhaps the most famous of Irish whiskies, John Jameson started distilling whiskey in Ireland in 1780 in Bow St. Dublin. While this is no longer a working distillery, you can still come to visit the grounds and learn all about the history of the famous whiskey, enjoy a tasting experience, learn how to make some delicious cocktails or even blend your own whiskey. For the whiskey lovers, the Bow St. distillery offers some really unique experiences and for novices, you will learn all you need to know while getting to enjoy a tasty drink or two. Children are welcome on the tour but most of the experiences are over 18s. The Jameson distillery is just a short journey on the Luas from the hotel.

One of Dublin’s newer distilleries, it was the first new distillery in Dublin for over 125 years. Although the history of Teelings goes back much further when Walter Teeling set up a small distillery in 1782 in Liberties. The latest generation of Teeling’ decided to set up the Teelings Whiskey Company back in the Liberties back where it all started. Visit a real working distillery, learn the secrets of Teelings Whiskey and enjoy a tasting at the end of the tour. Children are welcome on the tour but most of the experiences are over 18s. Teeling’s Distillery is just a short journey by public transport from the Spencer Hotel.

Although the Irish Whiskey Museum is not a distillery, it is still a great place to visit if you want to learn about the history of whiskey and not just focus on one brand. The museum is independent of all distilleries and there are over 100 different types of whiskeys in the building. With great interactive tours teaching the origins of Irish Whiskey and how they developed along the way, then end the tour with a whiskey tasty, where you can become a real connoisseur and figure out your favourite blend. The Irish Whiskey Museum is located at the bottom of Grafton Street, just a short walk from the hotel and is well worth on visit on your trip to Dublin.
