Phoenix Park

The Phoenix Park is located in Dublin City Centre, close to The Spencer Hotel. The Park is made up of 1752 acres and is one of the largest designed landscapes in any European city. Just a quick 15 minute walk to O’Connell Street and a short bus journey will leave you directly at the entrance to The Phoenix Park. Beyond the gates, you will find an abundance of activities, historical sites, landscaped gardens and the home of Ireland’s president, Arás an Uachtaráin. You can see famous monuments such as the Wellington Monument which commemorates the Duke of Wellington. If you really want to see something different, The Magazine Fort that dates back to 1611 is really something fascinating to see!

Farmleigh is located in Phoenix Park and is well worth a visit. Recently refurbished by the Guinness family, it is simply exquisite and would definitely add to your experience in Dublin. It is visited by ambassadors and visitors to Ireland from all over the world. The history of Farmleigh house dates back to 1847, and in 2001 it was brought back to life again by the Office of Public Works.

The goal was to modernise the building as much as possible without taking away from its historical significance, which was achieved successfully. You can visit the Farmleigh website to find out more information on the different rooms within the building and their story. Guided tours of the house are also offered and last approximatley 45 minutes.

Bikes are available for hire if you fancy venturing around the park on a sunny day. If you are up early enough, you might catch sight of some deer prancing through the park! Phoenix Park is also the home of Dublin Zoo, where you will find a multitude of playgrounds and Kiosks selling ice creams for those long lazy Summer days. Cafés & tea rooms and a beautiful flower garden along with the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden will make up the perfect picnic.
