After his visit to a mesmerizing exhibition at Crystal Palace in London, William Dargan approached the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) in 1852 in hopes of creating his own incredible exhibition. Thus, he founded the National Gallery of Ireland. The Irish people took a great liking to the arts very quickly, though it was disbanded for a short period of time before its re-establishment in 1864. Roman paintings, along with loans from the London National Gallery, were hung on display when it was re-opened. Over the last 120 years, exquisite donations have been given to the gallery. Over the years, it has been extended to accommodate many exclusive designs and beautiful, historical pieces.
Admission to the permanent collection is free, though entry into certain exhibitions will require booking.
If you find yourself needing some refreshments during your visit, the Gallery Café serves breakfast and light lunch options, as well as tea, coffee & cakes throughout normal gallery hours.

You can also Take a shopping trip via Grafton Street to see one of Dublin’s most well-known streets or wander through Merrion Square and Stephen’s Green to see the stunning parks.
