The Gaiety Theatre
The Gaiety Theatre has been part of Dublin’s rich theatrical history for the past 142 years. Located just off Grafton Street, the theatre has played host to a number of famous faces over the years, including Julie Andrews, Spike Milligan, Joan Rivers and Peter Ustinov. The theatre continues to champion the talents of Irish icons such as The Dubliners and The Chieftains. The theatre has undergone massive refurbishments in 2003 and 2007 so that it is now one of Dublin’s best-loved and most popular venues. It is well worth seeing a show to experience some of Dublin’s rich theatrical history in one of Dublin’s most iconic buildings. Since the very first show in 1871 which included burlesque act, La Belle Sauvage, the building is said to have seen more famous faces throughout the years than any other building in Ireland. During its refurbishment a new stage was fitted, a larger orchestra pit was built and seating was improved to accommodate larger scale productions.
